Summary
A PRRI poll revealed 46% of Republican voters support using the U.S. military to detain undocumented immigrants in camps, a prospect pollster Robert P. Jones found alarming to survey.
While three-quarters of Americans oppose such measures, Jones expressed concern about the normalization of these discussions during the Trump era.
Axios highlighted Trump’s past remarks endorsing military action against undocumented immigrants and political opponents, raising fears about his potential policies in the 2024 election.
The data underscores growing divides over immigration enforcement and the use of military power domestically.
Question about the numbers generated. As i understand it, ~50% of republican voters were in favour of the measure where republicans make up one third of the population. So this means 15% of the US population is in favour of the measure? Is that right?
If you polled 1941 Germans about whether they support death camps for “undesirables” you might have gotten similar numbers but they still wouldn’t do anything to stop it when it happens.
This is enough popular support within a ruling party with control of all branches of government to do it. What percentage of the people who don’t support it would be willing to abandon the party if they enacted it?
I was talking about the numbers in the article to try to clarify them. But nice job on bringing up the Nazis so quick,
Republicans are American Nazis. It will always be relevant when talking about the party. Catch up.
Really? So when are you going to start shooting them?
The minute they try to cross the Canadian border and make us the 51st state.
I know they’re a bunch of dumb bastards but that line always makes me laugh, like they think that because Canada is a (sovereign) state it isn’t already broken up into provinces and should at least become ten states.
Would I tell a conservative if I had, slowroll?
There are always a few independent and Democrat voters who also support it. Not many, but you’ll always find a few. Article says around 75% are against it overall.
