You’re like that kinky statistician, you need more than standard deviancy.
the tech space is very much innovate or die
Is it still? The VC funding has started drying up and every tech company has started worrying about profitability now. I think the old innovate or die mantra has played itself out.
And IBM & Motorola diminished in part because they stuck to older industries where cost became as important as innovation and didn’t lower their cost.
Yeah, it is a fantasy. But it is an appealing one to some.
You’re right in that the trade is legalized, but it is really hard to analyze the social effects as the only state to legalize it has purposefully kept the trade away from most civilization. You have to go out of your way to go to a Nevada brothel in a way you don’t have to in other countries.
Hell, it is probably a reason why Vegas has a prostitution problem in the city.
You also have some newer mods who are controlling the narrative for profit.
I feel like she might go for Senator in 2028.
Outside of Trump, Presidents typically win a state office before going on to President. While AOC could go for governor, I don’t see her really going for that role.
It wasn’t really.
Outside of Florida being Florida, it looks like Helene hit inland a lot harder than previous hurricanes. Usually hurricanes lose a lot of their energy by the time they hit the Appalachian Mountains. So you’ve got a lot of mountain regions dealing with the worst flooding they have ever seen.
I’m not putting any work stuff on by home computer. I’m not giving work admin rights to that.
Going down that dark rabbit hole, I can see how some people might see some benefits.
Entire classes of jobs get reserved for you. All white collar jobs and the better blue collar jobs go to those with the right skin color and genitals.
You get a government provided sex maid to serve you at home. She is less likely to leave you because she less legal and economic options to do so. If she acts up against you, you are allowed to “correct” her.
There is a hierarchy of deference that you are high up on. You may not rank in the 1%, but your word means more than someone of a different gender or ethnicity.
People may be willing to risk their freedom for that elevated position.
Yeah, but the law was written in a way to keep it out of all major cities in Nevada.
That may be the way consoles go.
We aren’t seeing the kinds of innovation happening in hardware that justifies dropping backward compatibility and the AAA gaming market hasn’t released games in the quantity they did before.
So Sony and Microsoft can update the hardware in a way to maintain backwards comparability and game companies have the option of developing to the current generation only, both generations with different graphics, or the older generation.
Why? Amazon seems to have built an amazing system with AWS, but does it need the same amount of staff time to maintain it that it needed to develop it?
If Amazon acknowledges that it isn’t going to be developing new products to the scale it did for the past decade, it probably doesn’t need the headcount it had before.
Yep, and that is a lot worse.
I’ve just found that beard growth is easier for me in general as I’ve gotten older.
It kind of does.
You get user lock-in as users buy more games, making it so Steam is always a store to buy from. You can’t deplatform from Steam. At that point, you can’t replace Steam with another DRM platform to pay existing games. That creates a large customer base which becomes a must add for vending new games.
It isn’t a hard monopoly, but it helps create a soft monopoly.
Patrick (H) Willems is great movie criticism with plot.
I can’t remember which YouTuber called Real Life Lore the store brand Wendover, but it fits.
While Visa may have done some unethical things to become the monopoly, the industry would have naturally gone that way no matter what.
The problem is that the belligerents will generally both agree that the conflict isn’t a war. This isn’t limited to the USA either. The Falkland Islands conflict involved the invasion and counterinvasion of the Falkland Islands between Argentina and the United Kingdom. Officially, that conflict was not a war and neither side officially declared war on the other.
