I always use the thirds rule, roughly a third of all voters are head in the sand Republicans. This is the MAGA crowd. Any time I see a survey about US politics, I look for anything beyond 33% to see what the “regular” Republicans represent. In this case, about 13% of regular Republicans would support the measure.
When I see polls like this gain ground beyond that third, that’s when I know the MAGA message is starting to seep into the “regular” voter.
If a third of Republicans are the die-hard ones and 46% of Republicans support it, then the 13% excess over 33% is divided up between 2/3 of all Republicans (“regular” ones). So it’s more like 20% of regular Republicans support it.
