Because as a small party, they can’t afford to hold separate caucus and convention events on separate days and still be competitive in ad buys and everything else they need to spend on against the two rich parties. The rich parties KNOW this. It’s exactly why the rule exists

Voting third party is useless until we get rid of First Past the Post. It sucks, but it’s the truth.
But neither the Republicans nor the Democrats in office are interested in making that change happen. So…
