  • No. That’s not what I said. I said the manufacturers not testing their equipment on Linux made it so, and more users would change that. Actually, looking at it again that isn’t even true. This example has nothing to do with the operating system at all. It’s caused by connecting with a computer on a different subnet (or I guess more accurately the same subnet as the printer), which would have happened even if the OS were Windows.

  • Honestly, this is a pretty good example of why this isn’t an inherent Linux problem. It’s a problem of using any OS that isn’t popular enough to be supported by manufacturers. More people using Linux would cause problems like this to stop happening.

I realize that’s a distinction without a difference to a lot of people, and that’s totally okay. I’m not saying that’s wrong, but it matters to me that the benefits of Linux are specific to the OS, while most of the problems are not.

  • Third world actually came from the cold war. There were the two major sides, but then there was a whole bunch of countries that weren’t really on either side. A whole “third world”. Of course, a lot of those countries were poor, so the term came to be associated with that, but there really isn’t a coherent definition of what it means to be a third world county. It has never really been about the standard of living for the average citizen though. More about whether a country is a bully or the bullied on the international stage, and we all know where the US falls on that spectrum.

Who said anything about giving things away? You just made that up. What, you think immigrants are stealing your jobs and also not paying rent? That’s not how thing work in the real world. The only people getting your stuff are the prisons full of innocent people who just wanted a chance at a better life.

Remember, if you want to let other people move, it also automatically gives them the legal right to steal your house and leave you homeless. That’s why I’m living under a bridge while a family from Mississippi has taken my house. Its okay though. They were born on the plot of dirt between Canada and Mexico, so really that means they’re defending my freedom by stealing my house.
