I agree with this. Communist like systems where there is central control of resources encourages corruption as people vie to get closer to the central control of the resources. Capitalism is just more honest about the fact that many people - not all of them - are fundamentally self-interested and entices them into cooperation with others by offering the carrot of individual rewards. Those are probably the same people that would try to exploit the system if it were more centrally controlled.

I used to work in adtech and the most we could do was track locations. Even that didn’t work properly for our purposes because most shops are in malls where several different stores co-exist on the same coordinates. It only worked for outlets in retail parks which were separated from one another.

Popularity boost due to being marketed/published by a popular youtuber. The game is very good though! I was initially put off by the publisher due to being wary of it being a gimmick but picked it up after the reviews landed.

This is a wild take. The politics of the game - to the extent that it exists at all - are skeptical about office desk jobs and large supermarket chains. It is even hard to even take those elements too seriously because they entire presentation is so whimsical.

I’ve not seen any legitimate refutation of the Cass review so far. The 98% of studies critique was explored and rejected on More or Less: Behind the Stats on Radio4 this week. The programme can probably explain it better than me but essentially the trials of “moderate” quality were not thrown out, and were taken into consideration in the results.

Other criticisms seem more like emotional responses where people complain about the language being overly medicalised. Or similarly, the report reading like something from the past where academia considered homosexuality to be a mental disorder. Personally I don’t think the phrasing - even if it is clumsy - can delegitimise the conclusions.

Every central bank failed to predict inflation from covid stimulus, or thought that the risk of inflation was worth taking to prevent economic collapse.

More targeted stimuli might have helped the longterm inflation figures and it might have made more sense doing that in hindsight. However it is hard to tell what problems might have arisen if they had taken that route at the time.

They nailed it with this game. It’s glorious. Every historical detail is spot-on and the “bestiary” style is a feast for the eyes.

That’s their excuse but it is convenient for them that in order to train the AI the workers need to follow the exact same steps as what an AI would be doing if it was sufficiently trained. We can’t say as outsiders to what extent the actual work is assisted by AI. Seems likely that it is largely a manual process.

I’m not exactly sure how they would have set this up given that their usual solution of Mechanical Turk does not pay their workers in cash anywhere outside of the US.

In some rural parts of the states Mechanical Turk is the largest employer but workers in other countries can only get paid in Amazon vouchers.

Somehow there are still a lot of Indian people working for Mechanical Turk though. It’s not clear if they are exchanging the vouchers or are stuck in a hellish walled garden where their wages can only be spent with their employer.
