Yeah, that’s bullshit. First of all, 1% of energy use for a network that serves a few million transactions per day is really bad. A single 1kW node in Visa’s datacenter churns through that in an hour.

Second, it’s not renewables. It’s everything they can get for cheap. And that’s often enough coal, gas, oil. Also, they’re driving up power demand as a whole, which means fossil energy is actually needed longer.

Counting on other people’s hate for your own gain, isn’t that stupid unfortunately.

In Germany there was a battle between left and right back then. The economy boomed in the 20s and faltered in the 30s. Capitalists saw the threat of socialism looming just behind Poland and so they supported fascism.

The Nazis funneled billions into large businesses. It was unsustainable and morally multi-level wrong, but they skimmed a lot of profits from these agreements. They got rich, while the economy started to collapse - even before the war.

Even after the war, most of them got away. They kept much of their wealth.

The idea was probably rather that the right would spin this as some sort of attack on their existence and go full on Reichstagsbrand.

Playing the victim is the entire Spiel of the far right, it’s not implausible that actually being a victim would create a boost from undecided voters.

Bodily autonomy is fine, as long as it’s not harming anyone (including oneself). If this tool is accurate (again, big if), it could actually increase bodily autonomy, since you could distinguish between real cases and those who really have other problems. That takes the burden of proof away from trans people.

Think about how long it takes today from the first visit at a doctor’s office until actual treatment or legal processes can start. Using diagnostics like this, this could be shrunken down to one MRI.

If we assume that it’s useful as a diagnostic tool (very iffy if there), that’s not a bad thing.

There are people who regret transitioning and currently there’s no way to reliably tell which trans kids are actually trans and which have been manipulated or are just in a phase, thus denying early intervention for many. If it could be reasonably reliably tested for, that’s great.

The insurance part is 100% an American issue. Civilized societies have socialized healthcare.

Until my Abitur (12th grade) I learned about equations, stochastics, integrals and derivatives, vector stuff, etc.

That’s software development for you. Why is that weird value there? Because some guy, at some point, had checked for that and somehow it’s still relevant.

I know of a system that churns through literally millions of transactions representing millions of Euros every day, and their interface has load bearing typos (because Germans in the 90s were really bad at the Englishs).

If you actually want to learn maths (that is, if you’re not just venting), you could try to ask for help in dedicated math or teaching communities.

The problem with teaching stuff you know, is to put yourself in a position of actually not knowing anything. I’m a software developer and had to teach some apprentices a few years ago, and it was really eye opening to me to see how much assumptions about the apprentice’s knowledge I made even though I thought I made my explanation “basic”.

It’s quite possible that all the tutorials you’ve read are either for literal children, so they just don’t work for your adult brain, or they’re intended for adults and assume too much.

On a personal note: how did you get into that situation? Were you home schooled?

COVID became just another flu for most people, it’s been a big deal three or four years ago, today hardly anyone cares.
