The Alliance said its latest offer would increases wages by nearly 50% over the six-year contract, and triple employer contributions to retirement plans. The offer also would strengthen health care options and keep current language that limits automation.
The union has demanded 77% pay raises over six years to help deal with inflation. Many of the ILA workers can make over $200,000 per year, but the union says they must work large amounts of overtime to reach that figure.
High-end longshoreman wages without overtime are currently around 81k, so that $200k figure is sensationalizing it.

Firstly, being the second one to commit a war crime does not make the act of doing so any less heinous.
Secondly, do you have any actual evidence you’re basing that on, or is it just Israel’s word you’re taking? Because we know for a fact that Israel bombed civilians, and as far as I’ve seen, it’s just hearsay that they were targeting actual Hezbollah members. On the other hand, we do know for fact that they’ve used this justification falsely before, so I’m disinclined to believe anything they say, frankly.
The example in the article reduces a recipe print from 47 pages to 1 by using AI to remove all of the filler garbage and leaves just the recipe instructions. Slightly different than just rearranging elements.
It wouldn’t seem like too light of a sentence if other relatively minor crimes didn’t put poor people in prison for way longer. The solution is to reduce sentences for minor, especially victimless crimes to be in line with these, not the other way around.

The problem with this is that it requires people in power to vote to limit their own power. And while there have been some, certainly, who have been willing to do so, getting a supermajority of people willing to do it is simply not something I see as remotely possible anymore.
It’s not like I’m sitting here actively supporting the genocide. I’ve been speaking out against Israel since this conflict started. Look, here I am being critical of Israel 10 months ago.
But I’m going to level with you - if I was going to choose a single issue to base my vote on, it wouldn’t be this. It would be climate change. I’d throw in my cap with whomever had the most decisive, immediate plan to cut fossil fuels and major pollutants, enact climate-friendly policies, and put 100% of our budget and focus into reversing as much of the damage we’ve caused as possible, because I think that’s a much bigger issue than Gaza, or Ukraine, or anything else.
Compared to that, which is a global problem, I think any individual nation’s conflicts are pretty trivial. It trumps genocide, it trumps fascism, it trumps everything.
If Trump and the GOP have their way, there won’t be another election cycle. Maybe you need to think beyond this one, too.

When we have a viable progressive candidate. Until then, I’m going to continue being a pragmatist and vote for the candidate that I think is better among those who have a chance to win, rather than waste my vote trying to make an idealistic point.
The Harris-Walz campaign is specifically amplifying his hometown roots in their own messaging… It’s how they want us to view him. I’d say it’d be more biased if the article painted him as nothing but a seasoned politician.
