Okay, you’re trolling I get it, enjoy your day.

Tell me you didn’t actually go back and recheck the conversation without telling me.
Because in reply to “pardon Snowden” someone posted an irrelevant link about Trump pardons and that link is what I replied to. If you actually read the conversation you’ll see they were drunk and don’t know why they posted it either.
Pay more attention to the comment threading, your reply is not relevant to what I’m talking about.
Read it, don’t understand how this is relevant to Snowden.
I suspect this is 80% execution biting them. (Though the cost is still dumb) If they’d left it truly modular and had not infected the main game with the intro quest then paywalled people. They’d be getting way less flack.
The problem all around, IMO, is just how extremely broad the term content is. Content can be a complex hour-long video on a subject with amazing editing, or a beautiful piece of artwork, but it can also be a quick selfie at a club or any given platform’s equivalent of shitposting.

Maybe I’m just a doomsayer, but the same backlash that has been oh so successful at keeping climate change/environmental policy in a good place? -_-
The counterpoint are people like this, the feature they want is built on extreme data gathering. https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/a8fec90b-c349-46c9-8592-5dbe17ea4c8c.jpeg
Ready to be surprised but I doubt they would leave it on mobile only, bringing it to the desktop feeds into their model for a cohesive brand environment across all your devices.
Given the number of preexisting huge breaches, I’m feeling a bit jaded at this point.
Like the title says, it’s meant to be a Tumblr-esque experience.
You may be thinking of something else, Slack doesn’t have a self-hosted version.
IMO, rather personal, and not statistically valuable information. Someone would need to scour endless records from different sources combining the info together and at best, they’d end up with a Guinness world record entry of some sort. Depending on the quality and age of records too you’re likely going to run into issues distinguishing people of the same name somewhere along the line.
I am honestly a little confused, what are they trying to bring to the table that isn’t covered by Bing Chat AI already?
Their example is 99% of the popular content for that board during that era.
With that domain, I’m not that surprised. Actually even says Mumbai News on the page so it’s non-native speakers writing or converting for English.
So basically “NextDoor: Fediverse Edition”.
I’m not against but I think uptake will be difficult because, depending on your starting region you may be competing with an established product and because there is a heavy venn overlap between people who care about decentralization and those who care about privacy and wouldn’t want an app tracking and to some degree giving away their location.
(Clarity Edit: I have a cold, my ending was guessable , but technically gibberish.)
Federate, let them get a taste of sweet Lemmy content, then cut them off. Will make the Threads experience feel broken for native Threads users.
As with many things, it really is likely a mixture of both. Very possible that 9.99 was unrealistically low, but the current streaming market and “inflation” smoke screening is also enabling some real squeezing of consumers.
