    Prison work is slavery. Isn’t it the aim of prison to punish criminals so they may learn their lesson? Shouldn’t one of those lessons be, “You work a fair day’s work, you get fair wages?”

    If you’re not helping them make that mental connection, jobs are going to be bullshit in their minds, and they are likely to return to a life of crime. They are serving time as they should, don’t take monetary reward from them.

      Some prisons disagree. The 13th amendment bans slavery except as punishment for a crime, meaning prisoners can legally be slaves. Too many see incarceration exclusively as a vehicle for punishment rather than a rehabilitation tool.
