I hope she tackles campaign finance reform to get unlimited money out of politics, and widespread voter protection laws to protect the right to vote as top priorities. Biden helped put out all the critical brushfires and made some investments in the future, as usual for an incoming dem, but we can’t make long term progress when repubs can walk away with every other election due to their business support and voter suppression.

Make election day a federal holiday. Undo Citizens United, somehow.

If the Legislature and Presidency go all Democrat, the very FIRST thing they have to do, is deal with that insane Supreme Court.

Impeach Thomas, Alito and every idiot that fat Cheeto installed on the court. Probably will get Thomas, but not sure about the other 4, but they need a reality check. Thomas needs to go to be tried for his ethic violations afterward. He needs to revisit his life choices in a quiet cell. Also, scrap that stupid fucking RV of his. Seriously, why the fuck do those things exist? Why not just stay in a nice hotel? It would be cheaper.

Increase the court to anywhere between 11 and 15. There are 11 circuits, so 1 SC justice for each makes sense.

Then that court’s first order of business is to shut the fuck up and do the job they are there to do.

Wait, why not reverse the previous decisions… Easy, because what has happened this year, can happen again… so…

Congress needs to codify women’s reproductive rights, Chevron Deference, and anything else these bunch of fucking morons did this past year. Congress should then take a real close look at any other “business as usual” things that go on in government and see how they could be better protected from the next assault from these assholes.

The Fucking Idiot Six on the Supreme Court put into very sharp relief the weaknesses in our government. It’s time to rectify that.

The Supreme Court will change in the next 4 years. At least 2 of those 6 won’t be there. Doesn’t mean it still shouldn’t be fundamentally changed, though. And it doesn’t mean that laws shouldn’t be written to safeguard rights.

I am voting Harris. I was going to vote Biden. But I wish they would stop calling either of them Progressive. Hopefully Bernie can get her to move on some agenda before she receives his endorsement.

Bernie would have been an excellent president, but he’s always been pragmatic rather than opportunistic. He advocates for the same progressive policies he always has, but he also knows Harris needs to win. Democrats don’t need to be pulled left, they need to be pushed forward. That’s how we win, and that’s how America and humanity will survive.

          Bernie is older than Biden.

I’m sure you have a litmus test for being a progressive. I’m glad Bernie seems to meet it, however, I doubt he could achieve half the legislation Biden signed.

There’s no point in playing “what if” when nobody knows what could have been.

But Biden is progressive in the same way gray is white because it isn’t black. Passing legislation isn’t the measure of progress, especially when that list of legilsation includes shit like DOMA and the Crime Bill. I’m happy he’s evolved on both issues, but he’s had a long career of being on the wrong side of progress.

Biden’s age was never my problem with him. His failing health and inability to articulate a point are a legitimate concern, but I felt like he should have resigned long ago to give Harris a chance to establish herself and run as an incumbent. That would have shown confidence in her as a candidate. We should all be so lucky to be as healthy as he is at his age, but it was clear 4 years ago that he was not fully present mentally.

What is maddening is that we could have had 2 years of Kamala demonstrating that she will be a good president. We could have had a full primary for Kamala to be tested, or to have a better challenger emerge from the crowd. Biden chose to remain on the job, and start a race he couldn’t finish. It makes me think he didn’t have confidence in Harris to prove herself, to stand up to a legitimate primary, or to catch the torch he wants to pass to her.

There are some advantages she has now. She can run on Biden’s accomplishments, but deflect any criticisms by saying she will do things differently. She can flip the script on the age argument. Any DNC party insiders who opposed her for misogynist or bigoted reasons have to swallow their tongues and fuck off, which is always good for the party (provided she wins - God help us if she loses, those fuckers will be insufferable). She doesn’t have to actually win a primary against democrats with better policies or more charisma, of which there are several.

So I’m optimistic she can put up a good fight. She has a shit ton of work to do in not very much time, but she should have plenty of money and plenty of support from Biden. I hope she gets elected, but then we start pushing her forward again.

yeah, I think harris, like biden is kinda, sorta, maybe progressive-adjacent-ish.

an early bernie endorsement might signal he can work with her. all in all this is shaping up like we have the possibility of a chance.

What progressive policy? There have been some good things, but that’s nowhere near what true progressives want. Let’s start with ending the genocide and healthcare for everyone.

Biden’s administration has been the most progressive presidential administration in US history. He limited drug costs using the federal government’s buying power.

      https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/03/02/fact-sheet-president-bidens-cap-on-the-cost-of-insulin-could-benefit-millions-of-americans-in-all-50-states/

If you don’t know that, you don’t have expensive health issues. Also, the idea that there’s a switch on the Resolute Desk that says “Middle East Genocide”, currently set to “on”, displays fundamental misunderstanding of the roots of problems in the area.

The Old Testament commands the children of Abraham to conquer other Canaanites in the area and “make no treaties with them”. Clearly there’s been war there for at least 2500 years. No president is going to “end the genocide”, not even if they were the reincarnation of Abraham himself.

There has not been a war there for 2500 years. Zionist terrorists ran the British out right after World War 2 and then they began clearing out Arabs, which led to the first war with their neighbors.

Biden’s administration has been the most progressive

Did FDR never happen in your timeline?

If you don’t know that, you don’t have

Or I may have incredible health insurance. Or I may have lots of money. You don’t know shit about my life and it’s small-minded to make assumptions.

Clearly there’s been war there for at least

Accepting genocide and writing it off as something that can’t be helped is pretty shitty.

Of course ending war in the middle east would be difficult, but stopping giving them the tools to slaughter innocents would be a huge step forward. Every US bomb dropped on civilians can be traced directly back to him and his policies.

We aren’t giving them weapons, like in Ukraine, they are paying for them. Obviously the IDF is using them irresponsibly, but it is a military deterrent to Iran and Russia in the region. Saudi Arabia and Israel can’t directly cooperate (for domestic reasons), so they do so through the US.

If Iran stopped their nuclear program (as they did under Obama), stopped arming dissidents, and stopped supporting authoritarian Syria, it would be a lot more peaceful in the region. They can’t because the leaders of Iran are authoritarian themselves and would be ousted if there were free elections.

They need Russian support and their proxies (Hezbollah, Iraqi groups, Hamas) to keep their domestic audience happy. Let me summarize: it is complicated.

She can’t actually do anything yet. She could put Israel on notice but that’s about it and they may not see that as a plus for the campaign.
