A monument celebrating Soviet-Polish unity in defeating Nazi Germany has been torn down in the town of Nowogard in northwestern Poland. This is one of many Soviet-era statues to be torn down in the country ever since the war in Ukraine began, many of them commemorating the victory against fascism during WWII.

The right-wing “Institute of National Remembrance” in Poland, who oversaw the destruction of the Nowogard monument yesterday, says that in 2022 there were over 60 Soviet monuments throughout the country. Since then, almost 40 of them have been destroyed.

The European liberal thinking pattern: “The communists defeated the Nazis but the communists were also bad” -> “well actually the communists defeated the Nazis but they were just as bad” -> “well actually the Nazis were bad but the communists were worse and it would have been better if the Nazis won” -> “The Nazis were good” -> “we should be Nazis now”.
