To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Pokémon Emerald‘s launch in Japan, a collective of 130 artists has collaborated to create a romhack featuring newly redrawn versions of all 386 Pokémon from the game.

    Saved you a click.

It’s called Emerald Resprited. Has a Vanilla version with just the sprite changes, and a different version where all 386 are catchable and trainer rosters are adjusted to match up with each artist’s contributions.

Incredibly inconsistent quality of the sprites. Just take a quick scroll through their google doc. Actual artist work right next to obvious child scribbles.

How can someone look at all these different styles, let alone the ones that literally look like they’re drawn by a six-year-old, and think, “Yeah, that’s fine”?

Especially because there are tons of Roms with very good sprite and also a totally new adventure and all new Mons.

I can see why the title says stunning cause I am stunned how this is anything but a joke? I could design better sprites and I only draw stick figures ffs

Ok now I get why you have to fight your way everywhere in pokemon. Imagine this thing running out at you in a cave. Of course you’ll send your Charizard to crisp it

For everyone hating on the inconsistency of the art, I’m willing to bet it was a deliberate choice.

The inconsistency adds to the charm, and means that anyone who was a fan of it can submit art, regardless of skill level.

I’ve never seen it applied to a game before but it’s more obvious when compared to something like Shrek Retold

Blaziken lord and thorn kidz pretty much absolutely ruined this, will never play it with those shitty sprites.

However, I would pay for a version completely done with the Brooklyn_jiji, Gabriel mesquita, or saurus sprites.
